When you join the server you get a prompt in chat if you wish to load it directly or download it. Download method is the recommended one, but it will require an initial setup.
To update the resource pack you just download it again and drag it into your resource pack folder. Version mismatch can be spotted looking at the chat prompt title version (v0.2) and the one in the resource packs settings.
Once you download the texture pack file, just drop it into your resource pack folder and select it. The texture pack will work alongside your current ones, as it only adds skins to items and doesn't actually change the blocks.
Currently, it only adds texture to some items, like the crystals for crafting, ascended set (craftable) and voting tokens. But more skins are planned in the future. To view those skins you have to visit /skins on survival server. This will eventually be moved to a test server with better display system.
